Living With Wildlife

wildlife

One of the great joys of living in a rural area like Lake County is the abundance of wildlife. However, with that comes a whole set of issues we may need to deal with. The following are frequently asked questions in regards to handling wildlife in Lake County:

1.    Who do I call for injured, abandoned and/or problem wildlife issues?

Call the Fish & Game Department Dispatch at (916) 358-1300.  The Animal Care & Control Department does not handle wildlife for any reason.

2.    What do I do with wild life I've trapped accidentally?

If you accidentally trap wildlife it is your responsibility to release it where it was trapped; wildlife cannot be re-located because of the potential to spread disease.

3.    I'm trying to trap feral cats in my neighborhood.  How do I keep from trapping wildlife?

Try keeping the trap elevated to prevent skunks and other critters from entering the trap.
