Youth Leadership Conference
Lake County Alcohol and Other Drug Services
Lake County Alcohol and Other Drug Services (AODS) in collaboration with the California Friday Night Live Partnership (CFNLP) will be facilitating a youth leadership conference. The conference is free to students enrolled in a local High School or high school age youth that are home schooled or in alternative education for the 2012-2013 school year. The event will be held at the High Valley Ranch in Clearlake Oaks on June 30, 2012, from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. The youth will participate in numerous activities including a ROPES course and leadership training from CFNLP.
The purpose of the ROPES course is to create an environment where the youth are a little uncomfortable, start to intermingle, join teams, are challenged, accomplish goals as a team, and learn some tools that will help them throughout life. It teaches the youth how to solve problems and to work through their frustration. The staff at High Valley Ranch will be guiding the students through this exercise.
The mission of Friday Night Live chapters is to build partnerships for positive and healthy youth development, which engages youth as active leaders and resources within their communities. The FNL program operates on the guiding principles that every chapter is to be youth centered and directed, support young people in developing life and/or leadership skills, provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment, provide youth access to life experiences, otherwise unavailable and/or unaffordable, and build positive relationships between youth, their schools, and communities.
It will be held at the High Valley Ranch in Clearlake Oaks on June 30, 2012, from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. If you are the parent or guardian of a current high school student, for the 2012-2013 school year and would like them to participate please contact Carrie White or Jim Gessner at 707-994-6494 to register.
