Spring Into Reading
The Middletown Library will be welcoming spring on May 1 with several reading activities throughout the day. At 1:30 in the children’s area there will be reading to preschool age children. From 3-4pm we’ll have reading for primary students in the children’s area, selections including Casey at the Bat for older children in the YA chair area, and local actor and poetry lover Barry Kraft will present 20th Century American and British poetry and discussion to adults in the magazine area including Robert Frost, Jane Oliver and former poet laureate Billy Collins.
Upcoming Book Sale
The summer book sale, to generate money for the library, will take place on Saturday, June 15, from 9am-3pm during Middletown Days. The annual book sales in the fall and summer are the main sources of FMPL donations to the library, and a great deal for the shoppers who attend. Bargain hunters know that great treasures can be found: that best seller you wanted, a favorite author, an entire set of Harry Potter, a bag of books for five dollars! Yep, there’s something for everyone at the Middletown Library book sale! Please join us to buy and to volunteer. The day is always very hot, so we hope to be located in one of the community rooms adjacent to the library for a cool and comfortable event.

Middletown's Gibson Library and Montclair Branch Library in Oakland share a common origin.
The Middletown Gibson Library has a sibling - the Montclair Branch of the Oakland Public Library is also a Gibson library. Although the exteriors are not the same, the interiors have common features that show the resemblances between the two libraries. Chauncey W, Gibson donated the money for these two libraries and another in Oakland. The Friends of the Oakland Public Library newsletter "Off the Shelf" for March, 1996, includes a short history of the Montclair Branch Library and Chauncey Gibson's role in that history.
