Free Energy Assessments, Education, and Weatherization

A.B.S. (Applied Building Science) contracts locally as an Energy Partner Contractor with Pacific, Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to provide numerous energy efficiency programs for income-qualified residential customers.

Contact A.B.S. at (888) 475-0442, ext. 1003, or 263-6497, who will respond within a week. Services include:

  • Free energy education to help you understand how you use energy and simple ways to use less.
  • Free weatherization to make your house, apartment, or mobile home energy efficient and comfortable.

California Solar Initiative: Single-family Affordable Solar Home (SASH) program


Using solar energy to save money on your electric bill just got easier and more affordable because the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) now offers a solar rebate program especially designed for qualified low-income homeowners.

Why Should You Participate?
The Single-family Affordable Solar Homes (SASH) Program will cover 65-100% of the installed cost of your solar electric system.
In addition, your solar electric system will:

  • lower your electric bills
  • help reduce air pollution
  • support your community through green job training

How to Participate:

  1. Find out if you meet the basic eligibility requirements by contacting GRID Alternatives at 1-866-921-4696
  2. GRID Alternatives will contact you for an initial pre-screening.
  3. If you are qualified for the program, GRID Alternatives' staff will help you fill out all the necessary paperwork.
  4. GRID Alternatives, or another licensed solar installer, will install a solar electric system on your home. This will take about two days.
  5. GRID Alternatives' staff will provide you with an industry-standard 10-year labor warranty on your system.
