CLEARLAKE CITY CANCELS ANIMAL CONTROL
SERVICES WITH COUNTY
As of November 1,2009 the City of Clearlake will assume all animal control services for the City. The County animal control will no longer accept any animals from the incorporated area of Clearlake. All animal related calls, questions and concerns relating to loose, vicious, stray,Lost, Found, injured, abused, and unwanted pets. Should be made to Clearlake Police Dispatch at 707-994-8251. Licensing questions should be directed to Clearlake City Hall at 707-994-8201.

One of the great joys of living in a rural area like Lake County is the abundance of wildlife. However, with that comes a whole set of issues we may need to deal with. The following are frequently asked questions in regards to handling wildlife in Lake County:
1. Who do I call for injured, abandoned and/or problem wildlife issues?
Call the Fish & Game Department Dispatch at (916) 358-1300. The Animal Care & Control Department does not handle wildlife for any reason.
2. What do I do with wild life I've trapped accidentally?
If you accidentally trap wildlife it is your responsibility to release it where it was trapped; wildlife cannot be re-located because of the potential to spread disease.
3. I'm trying to trap feral cats in my neighborhood. How do I keep from trapping wildlife?
Try keeping the trap elevated to prevent skunks and other critters from entering the trap.

California state law requires that dogs over the age of four months be licensed. Below are the requirements to license your dog in Lake County:
o Current rabies vaccination certificate
o Spay/Neuter certificate (unless exempt from Spay/Neuter Ordinance)
o Registration papers (AKC, etc.) if purebred dog exempt from Spay/Neuter Ordinance
o Applicable License Fee (see below)

City of Lakeport:

Lake County Public Works Department 263-2341--responsible for picking up any dead animals on County roads ONLY, particularly where it is a traffic hazard.

If it's on the right-of-way of a County road and not a traffic hazard, then one of garbage disposal companies can pick up the dead animal. No pick ups on private property.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
It is a misdemeanor for anyone to place any dead animal (whether it belonged to him or not) within 100 feet of any street, pubic highway or road. (Penal Code 374d).
