Lake County is home to an efficient and friendly public/private partnership of service providers dedicated to business development and job creation. Known as the Lake County Business Services Network, these agencies, jurisdictions, and departments work cooperatively to deliver no-cost and low-cost services and support to local business owners and entrepreneurs throughout Lake County. This reference guide includes a listing of available services and key contacts for each agency.

 

Center for Workforce and Business Development

Part of the North Central Counties Consortium, the Center provides employee recruitment, screening, placement, and vocational training services to employers, as well as human resources consulting. The Center can help with current labor market information for business and career planning, on-the-job training, and classroom training and starting a new business.

Clearlake Chamber of Commerce

The Clearlake Chamber of Commerce provides many benefits to local businesses including referrals from inquiries received by phone, Internet, and in-person visits to the Chamber office. The Chamber provides visitor assistance for all areas, general information for the City of Clearlake and Lake County; networking with community leaders and fellow business owners; and cost savings of group advertising and mailings.

Community Development Services

CDS provides direct financial and technical assistance to businesses on behalf of the Lake County Economic Development Program. Services include flexible business loans, marketing and management assistance, business plan development and the coordination of services provided by our business assistance network.

Employment Development Department (EDD)

EDD provides CalJobs resume posting, job search assistance, and referral services for job seekers and job order entry for employers; veteran and farmworkers services; bonding; new California employer packets and registration forms/tax information; employer tax credits (work opportunity); and America’s JobBank web site.

Lake County Marketing and Economic Development Program

A division of the County’s Administrative Office, the Program engages in economic development activities for business expansion, retention, and attraction. Through the program, the County offers a business loan program, a mini-grant program for community beautification, site location assistance, an agritourism development program, and provides referrals to business service providers, as well as visitor information and assistance through the Lake County Visitor Information Center.

Lake County Redevelopment Agency

The Redevelopment Agency provides assistance to businesses within the Northshore Redevelopment Area along Highway 20. Commercial Facade Improvement Program funds are available at a low interest rate with flexible terms for businesses to improve their facades. Architectural design assistance and review also is available for the businesses in this area.

The Winegrape Commission is passionate about winegrape grower education, research and product marketing. The winegrape industry is the fastest growing segment of the local agricultural economy. Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Yuba College

Funded by U.S. Small Business Administration and California community colleges, the SBDC provides free business consulting services to existing and start-up businesses in Lake County in the areas of financial analysis, managing employees, business planning, cash flow, profitability, and marketing. The SBDC also conducts entrepreneurial training and business-related seminars, including QuickBooks, Internet Marketing, and “Be Your Own Boss.”
