Energy
Conservation Policy for County Facilities
In 1982, the Lake
County Board of Supervisors adopted a series of energy
conservation rules, and number 19 of Section 10, Miscellaneous
Policies and Procedures, of the County of Lake Policies and
Procedures states that all departments must adhere to the energy
conservation rules including lighting, heating and cooling
systems, and appliances and office machines.
As a reminder, all
thermostats are to be set to a maximum of 68˚ for heating, and a minimum of 74˚ for
cooling. To address heating and cooling issues in the Courthouse,
the Public Services Department applied, and was awarded ARRA
funds to improve the heating, ventilation, and air condition
(HVAC) system with energy efficient equipment, which is scheduled
to be installed in July. Please review the policy on the County Intranet by following this

Other important energy
saving measures that all staff and departments should include:
·
Using coffee pots with thermal carafes
instead of glass pots with heating elements. Coffee pots that
keep coffee hot after brewing use as much electricity as running
a microwave oven.
·
Turn off your computer and all peripherals
including printers, monitors, copy machines, etc. at the end of
each work day.
·
Copies should be double-sided as much as
possible.
